3rd and 7th Ward Trunk Sewer System

    PROJECT DESCRIPTION
O’Brien and Gere Engineers, Inc. (OBG) was retained by the City of Utica Engineering Department to prepare construction drawings to rehabilitate a portion of the 3rd and 7th Ward Trunk Sewer System in the City of Utica, New York.

OBG required a CCTV Inspection of approximately 1,800 feet of the trunk sewer from Columbia Street to the Mohawk River to determine the condition of the conveyance piping and to determine what course of action should be taken to repair sections of the conveyance piping. The piping consisted of brick and reinforced concrete pipe with sizes between 30- and 48-inch in diameter.

Several manholes included with the inspection request were buried and could not be recovered during a visual inspection.

SUI utilized a combination of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and the onboard detectable sonde in the Envirosight RovverX crawler camera system to recover the location of buried manholes and a Trimble R8 GPS unit (survey grade) was utilized to determine the coordinates and rim elevation of each recovered manhole.

The Envirosight RovverX crawler camera system was utilized to capture colored video of the conveyance piping and WinCan VX video pipeline inspection software to note pipe defects and observations.

Deliverables included mapping to show the location and rim elevation of each recovered manhole, CCTV Inspection report, video files, and digital photographs.
